THE Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, yesterday joined some 200 cyclists to take part in ‘Welcome to the Fold’ 23km cycling event to promote the use of folding bicycles and cycling for health and well-being.
NewSum Wong, the chair of the organising committee on promoting folding bikes said, “In just less than four weeks, some 200 cyclists have registered for the event demonstrating that it’s well-received. Folding bikes are a fresh and exciting way to cycle specially for beginners and we hope that more people would take up cycling as one of the activities in maintaining a healthy lifestyle through exercise.”
She added that the folding bike is easy to transport in the car with its small wheel circumference.
The event was held at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien as part of the ‘Bandarku Ceria’ initiative. The Minister of Home Affairs also took part in a warm up exercise session led by Big Jay from Jay’s Boot camp.
Also joining the event was Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yusof with Deputy Permanent Secretary Haji Mohd Sunadi bin Haji Buntar and other officials.
The event was organised by Mixed Media Group with Classic Bootcamp as well as Cycletech event management and supported by the Brunei Darussalam Cycling Federation.
Other supporters include the Cycling Association of Kota Kinabalu, Giant Bikes KK, Bikes88 and Hiap Ho Cycle works from Miri and others.
