WITH Telekom Brunei Berhad’s (TelBru) Facebook Unlimited Plan gaining popularity since its launch in last November, the telecom major is planning to add other popular social media platforms in its efforts to provide the public with more options for accessing data.

TelBru is looking at social media platforms such as Instagram and WhatsApp to be integrated with attractive plans in providing added-value service for the convenience of its customers, said Lim Ming Soon, Chief Marketing Officer of TelBru.

The company’s Facebook Unlimited Plan plan allows subscribers to have unlimited Facebook access for just $3 a month without incurring additional data charges.

Customers can stay connected through the popular social networking site with Apple’s iOS, Android or other smartphones and tablets, as well as devices that support the Facebook application.

The plan is hoped to allay concerns over usage of quota, Lim Ming Soon told the Bulletin, adding that the decision to introduce the service was in response to higher demand for data among its customers, with future plans expected to see the introduction of such an arrangement for other social media platforms.

According to research conducted by TelBru, an average of 12 devices in every household are connected to one TelBru access point. “If, say for instance, all the 12 devices log-in to Facebook, and users starts clicking on links, sharing videos and photos as well as “liking” statuses, this will incur a lot of data.

“Many of our customers are avid Facebook users who frequently access the site via their laptops and computers at home as well as smartphones and tablets while on the go. The plan enables our subscribers to get their Facebook fix without worrying about incurring additional charges.

To complement the demand for high data usage, TelBru revealed that there are currently 89 sites for TelBru’s Nationwide Wi-Fi Service and it is expected to reach 100 sites by February 2017.

Among the Wi-Fi zones disclosed by Lim are Mabohai Shopping Complex, Supa Save Mabohai, Supa Save Beribi, KB Sentral, branches of TelBru, Fratini’s Restaurant, Excapade Restaurant and The Coffee Bean Brunei with major areas with the highest “traffic” of data usage located at Times Square Shopping Centre and Citis Square.

The TelBru Wi-Fi zone is identified with signages displayed in and around shopping centres and selected restaurants in the country.

Lim emphasised that the Nationwide Wi-Fi service is part of TelBru’s long-term strategy to expand its reach into the wireless segment by creating a platform for more compelling products and services where portability and accessibility to the Internet is critical.

“TelBru’s Wi-Fi is the next step of our innovation and I haven’t seen any other country has done this yet. We want our customers to have the same kind of flexibility when they are on the move from home to wherever they go,” Lim said.

With the new data plan that was launched in March this year, he added, “customers can enjoy inexpensive data wherever they go – like for a movie, shopping, lunch or dinner”.

The TelBru Nationwide Wi-Fi has a postpaid service which allows customers to access and utilise their home broadband quota at available TelBru Wi-Fi locations.

Meanwhile, the Prepaid Wi-Fi is a ‘pay as you use’ form of Wi-Fi broadband service which is available conveniently to members of the public with access speeds up to 5Mbps for an allocated period of time.

TelBru subscribers are encouraged to visit the TelBru’s ‘Plan Wizard’ available at the support section from the main website www.telbru.com.bn to determine the estimated monthly usage in order to get the right broadband plan.

This nifty tool allows customers to calculate the estimated data usage according to their monthly internet activities and provide recommendations on which broadband plan to sign-up.
