TO ENSURE that the welfare of Employees Trust Fund (TAP) members are being taken care of, TAP through its Enforcement Unit recently continued its series of surprise visits to business premisesaround the vicinity of Bandar Seri Begawan.
The main purpose of the visit was to ensure that employers had registered their local employees and made contributions to their TAP and Supplemental Contributory Pension (SCP) schemes.
During the surprise visits, TAP inspectors discovered that out of the 22 premises visited, three employers and 13 local employees had not registered for the TAP and SCP schemes.
Employers who failed to present necessary documents during the surprise visits were instructed to visit TAP’s office for further action such as registering their employees and making contributions to their respective TAP and SCP schemes.
TAP reminded all employers that it is mandatory for all employees who are citizens or permanent residents of this country to be registered with TAP, and that they have to ensure that contributions are made to their respective TAP and SCP schemes each month. This includes part-time workers, contract workers, daily-paid workers and workers on probation.
Under Section 26 of the Employee Trust Act, if found guilty, an employer will be fined not more than $3,000 for the first offence and not more than $10,000 for the second and subsequent offences.
TAP members who would like to lodge a complaint are urged to visit any of TAP’s branches or by calling TAP’s Call Centre at 2382800 during working hours. Alternatively, e-Amanah users may lodge complaints by logging into their account via TAP’s website at www.tap.com.bn.
