Minister visits 2 mosque construction sites

THE Minister of Religious Affairs, Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, yesterday visited the construction site of two new mosques – one in Kampong Kulapis in Brunei-Muara District and the other in Kampong Sengkarai in Tutong District.

The visits aimed to monitor the progress of work to ensure the projects meet their time schedule.

Accompanying the minister were Acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Haji Harun bin Haji Junid; Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Haji Zulkifli bin Panglima Asgar Dato Paduka Haji Abdullah as well as senior officers from the ministry.

The ministerial visit began at the construction site of the ‘Waqaf Mosque’ in Kampong Kulapis.

The mosque is being built on a five-acre land using Waqaf funds (donations made by Muslims for a religious, educational or charitable cause).

It has a capacity to accommodate 700 people at one time.

Among the facilities include male and female prayer areas, rooms for Imam and Bilal, store room, kitchen, reading room, meeting room, multipurpose room, car parks, toilets and Wudhu (ablution) areas for men and women.

The delegation then proceeded to visit the mosque construction site at Kampong Sengkarai.

The mosque is built on a five-acre land with funds allocated by Brunei Islamic Religious Council.

It can accommodate around 1,000 people. Among the facilities include prayer halls for men and women, Muzakarah room, room for mosque affairs officer, rooms for Imam and Bilal, special guest room, counselling room, reading room, PA system room, store room, Wudhu (ablution) areas for men and women, jenazah administering room, kitchen, and toilets.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs said that Bruneians now have the opportunity to donate to the Mosque Construction Fund , which was launched in April 2015, as personal investment for the hereafter.

The public who would like to contribute to the fund may do so through the collection boxes placed at mosques nationwide and certain buildings such as Sumbangsih Mulia and through banks by depositing in the Mosque Construction Fund account at BIBD (00-001-01-0047148) and TAIB (002109403102068).

People can also contribute their donations directly to Secretariat of ‘Tabung Dana Bagi Pembinaan Masjid Negara Brunei Darussalam’ located at Department of Mosque Affairs, Ministry of Religious Affairs, Simpang 15, Jalan Sumbiling.

For government staff and employees of government-linked companies, there is also the option of making voluntary contribution through salary by giving standing orders to banks.
