AS PART of its latest initiatives in welcoming the new year, Telekom Brunei Berhad (TelBru) will boost Internet speeds to a minimum of 10Mbps at no additional cost for its customers across Brunei.
The new 10Mbps minimum speed offered by TelBru is made possible by the continuous rollouts that have so far exceeded the company’s planned target, the leading service provider said in a press conference held at its headquarters in Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex in the capital yesterday.
According to TelBru, year 2017 is expected to see more fibre connectivity in the country including within several national housing scheme areas, residential as well as commercial locations.
The latest initiative will provide customers with several broadband alternatives with the minimum standing at 10Mbps that will provide faster connection, replacing the previous minimum option of 1Mbps alongside added broadband quota at the same price for as low as B$25.
Lim Ming Soon, Chief Marketing Officer of TelBru, said, “All broadband plan packages will start with 10Mbps and there will be no more 1Mbps, 2Mbps, 3.5Mbps or 5Mbps speeds for the Internet.”
According to him, throttled speed for customers who used up their entire data quota will also be revised to five per cent of new bandwidth offered. This broadband plan migration is applicable to both home and business customers.
As part of this change, TelBru has taken steps to consolidate a number of its plans bringing the total number of home broadband options from 13 to eight and business broadband plans from 12 to seven. This will not only better streamline TelBru’s services but also significantly benefit several customer brackets, particularly those subscribed to the current $79 home broadband plans and below.
This initiative aims at facilitating better economic growth on the backbone of reliable fibre infrastructure that is resistant to interference compared to outdated copper technology.
However, TelBru reminded customers who are still on copper would still face difficulties in reaching such speeds, but assured that the company will assert its best possible effort to provide the fastest potential speed allowed by the ageing infrastructure as fibre rollouts continue to take place. Existing TelBru customers will automatically get the upgrade. The broadband plan migration is set to take place before January 1, 2017, during which time customers will see a refresh in their monthly quota that will be refreshed once more at the start of the new billing cycle.
