IT IS one of the busiest seasons for bookstores as parents, guardians and their children flock to several bookstores in the country in preparation for the new school term.

The Bulletin yesterday visited two well-known bookstores in the country to get their view on back-to-school preparations and interviewed a few parents on their opinions on the promotions offered.

Mohamad Rafi bin Haji Tejuddin, Sales Manager of Samima Sdn Bhd Bookstores and Stationeries explained that since the month of November a lot of parents had already booked school textbooks for their children so that they do not need to worry about finding it in other bookstores.

“Since today is payday, they just come to our shop and purchase their bookings. Currently we also have an ongoing promotion for selected items such as stationeries, school bags, files and more. The promotion gives 15 to 20 per cent discounts. Since opening our store at 8.30 this morning, there were an overwhelming number of customers,” he said.

“As part of our efforts to help parents make their back-to-school preparations easier, we also sell school uniforms and shoes apart from the usual textbooks, stationeries and other school essentials. We have kept stock of all the books in the 2017 textbook list.

However, the books are coming in batches, therefore it is hoped that the complete set will accommodate all before school reopens. So far, we have ample supply of school books and textbooks for our customers,” he added.

The sales manager also added that the prices of their school textbooks follow the pricing listed by the Department of Curriculum Development at the Ministry of Education.

In an interview with one of the parents at the bookstore, Hajah Salbiah binti Bakar shared her satisfaction on the discount and reduction of prices on stationeries.

“This year, it is easier for us to find school books as the store provides a booking system and we can book earlier and pay during bonus time,” she said.

Another customer, a father of four, Haji Salleh bin Abdullah, commended the services offered by Samima Sdn Bhd as their staff members were so friendly and willing to assist customers. Meanwhile, the Bulletin also interviewed the Manager of Bismi Trading Sdn Bhd, Jamal Mohamad bin Abdul Kalam, who also shared that bookstores have been busy and that almost all of the books which are sought by parents and students are available in shops before the new school term starts next year.

In an interview with one of the parents at Bismi Trading Sdn Bhd, Siti Saleha binti Md Noor said that it was convenient to find all the textbooks and workbooks in one store and the prices for stationeries are affordable.
