A MEDIA conference was held yesterday regarding the transfer of the Brunei Autism Centre for Adults (BACA) from their current location in Kg Jangsak to the new location in Kg Sungai Hanching.
The matter was disclosed by Malai Haji Abdullah bin Malai Haji Othman, the CEO and the President of the Society for the Management of Autism Related issues in Training, Education and Resources (SMARTER). The new location will be located at the former Sungai Hanching Health Centre.
In doing the preparations for the new centre, Malai Haji Abdullah said that they needed funds to accommodate their transfer.
The new centre will need renovation in providing facilities for BACA members and students such as their training and learning facilities.
Therefore, SMARTER will organise a garage sale for two days on January 7 to 8 2017, that will take place at the parking area in front of the Royal Regalia building in Bandar Seri Begawan.
The garage sale aims to raise funds in order to renovate, move their equipment and fix other services such as connecting electricity, water and electrical supplies and the telephone line so that they would be able to move to the new centre by the middle of January next year.
Adding to the garage sale, Malai Haji Abdullah said that members of the public, who want to contribute their items, may send their donations either to the BACA Centre in Kg Jangsak or the SMARTER EDGE Centre in Kg Mata-Mata.
With the move to the new building next year, the centre for BACA will provide ample sustainability in terms of financial expenses that could be channelled to other educational or training needs. At the same time, their shops located at the Wisma Jaya building will also be transferred to the Commercial Building (Bangunan Bumiputera).
He shared with the Bulletin that, the Ministry of Health has always supported SMARTER’s and BACA’s development and progress by providing them permanent buildings and seeing the training and learning needs of the students and its members.
Once the new centre is fully renovated, it will accommodate a number of facilities such as a gymnasium, extra classrooms and recreational hall.
