HIS Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, yesterday arrived safely in Kuching, Sarawak to attend the funeral ceremony of Allahyarham Tan Sri (Dr) Datuk Patinggi Haji Adenan bin Haji Satem, the Chief Minister of Sarawak at the Masjid Jamek, Petra Jaya, Kuching, Sarawak.
The arrival of His Majesty at the Kuching International Airport was greeted by Datuk Amar Haji Mohd Asfia bin Nassar, the Speaker of Sarawak Legislative Assembly as the Minister-in-Attendance and spouse; and Datuk Haji Abdul Karim bin Rahman Hamzah, Assistant Minister for Housing and Assistant Minister for Youth and Sports of Sarawak.
Also present to greet His Majesty was Dato Paduka Haji Alaihuddin bin Pehin Orang Kaya Digadong Seri Lela Dato Seri Utama Haji Awang Mohd Taha, the High Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam to Malaysia.
His Majesty consented to proceed to Masjid Jamek, Petra Jaya to pay the final respect and then perform the Zohor and Jenazah prayers.
His Majesty later proceeded to the funeral ceremony of Allahyarham Tan Sri (Dr) Datuk Patinggi Haji Adenan at the Samariang Muslim Cemetery, Petra Jaya, Kuching.
Allahyarham Tan Sri (Dr) Datuk Patinggi Haji Adenan leaves a wife, Datin Patinggi Datuk Amar Hajah Jamilah binti Haji Anu; four daughters and one son.
He was born in 1944 in Kuching, Sarawak and received his early education at St Joseph’s School, also in Kuching, before studying law at the University of Adelaide, Australia. He started his career as a magistrate in Kuching in 1970, he then joined politics where he became Sarawak’s Assistant Minister for Land Development for two years until 1987, then he was promoted as the Minister of Land Development in Sarawak in 1987 to 1992.
He was made Natural Resources and Environment Minister at the federal level in 2004. Allahyarham Tan Sri (Dr) Datuk Patinggi Haji Adenan was appointed as Sarawak’s fifth Chief Minister on February 28, 2014.
