WHEN I first heard about RBC Lifestyle, I thought to myself, “Is RBC going to print its own magazine?”
After its launch last Friday, I knew I was so wrong.
With good food and the right price, RBC Lifestyle is actually the latest hangout spot with an incredible panoramic view of Brunei’s iconic water village.
Under Royal Brunei Catering (RBC), RBC Lifestyle is a hip café located in the heart of the capital, offering diners a breathtaking view of not just the water village, but also the Sungai Kebun Bridge.
Uniquely designed, RBC Lifestyle has an actual cut-out of a real van for customers to place their orders at. And, instead of their names, customers can give their vehicle number to be notified when the food is ready for collection.
Speaking to the Weekend Bulletin, Royal Brunei Catering General Manager Ahmad Husaini bin Hassan explained, “The concept for RBC Lifestyle was hatched six months ago. We wanted to introduce a place that is ‘free and easy’ for people to hang out at.”
“We realised the water village is iconic. There are always tourists visiting the place, so we figured RBC Lifestyle would be the ideal place for them to enjoy a bite to eat before heading out on a boat cruise.”
For now, board games have also been introduced, while a book exchange is on the horizon.
As for the menu, he said, “It’s snack food and we are looking to add more food items for breakfast.”
RBC Lifestyle offers pasta, pizza, sliders, frankfurters, smoked wings, fish and chips, and waffles, as well as an assortment of thirst quenchers.
On the red truck design, he said, “I wanted to do something different. So when we think easy, affordable food, we always think of food trucks.”
Ahmad, who have been with RBC for over a year, pointed out that the local food and beverage industry is very competitive.
“There are so many food and beverages outlets in Brunei, competing with each other, doing the same thing. Therefore we strive to be different by first coming up with ‘Horizon’ for a fine dining experience. Then Magnum comes in without competing with others. We just want to complement, not compete.”
The operating hours of RBC Lifestyle are Monday to Thursday from 7am to 11pm, while on Friday it is from 7am to 12pm and again from 2pm to 11pm. On Saturday, Sunday and the eve of public holidays, RBC Lifestyle operates until 12 midnight.
