THE Inter-Company Sports Fest 2016 Goldmyne Badminton Tournament was officially launched last night at the Youth Centre, Bandar Seri Begawan.
The guest of honour, Haji Mohd ‘Abdoh bin Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdul Salam, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs, officiated the opening ceremony of the Goldmyne Badminton Tournament.
Also present to witness the event was the Acting Commissioner of Labour Haji Rani bin Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Mohd Yusof; the President of the Brunei Darussalam National Badminton Association (BDNBA), Antin Ahad; the General Manager of D’Sunlit Sdn Bhd, Christopher Chee; and the Managing Director of Goldmyne Hardware Sdn Bhd, Lau Kung Ching.
This tournament features four categories: Category ‘A’ – men’s doubles, Category ‘B’ – women’s doubles, Category ‘C’ – mixed doubles, and Category ‘D’ – mixed team.
This year’s inter-company badminton tournament will feature 38 teams competing in Category ‘A’ in hopes of winning top prize of $400 as well as the challenge trophy and medals.
In Category ‘B’, 11 teams will compete to win the top prize of $400 as well as the challenge trophy and medals.
Meanwhile in Category ‘C’, a total of 11 teams will compete for the title of champion to bring home the $400 cash prize, the challenge trophy and medals.
In Category ‘D’, 10 teams in total will face one another in hopes of winning the top prize of a challenge trophy and medals as well as the grand prize of $800.
Matches will be held at the same venue throughout the course of the tournament.
The Goldmyne Badminton Tournament is one of the six exciting sports events that are held during the sixth instalment of the annual month-long Inter-Company Sports Fest.
The other sporting events featuring in this year’s Inter-Company Sports Fest are running, bowling, basketball, netball, and futsal.
Organised by the Labour Department under the Ministry of Home Affairs with D’Sunlit Sdn Bhd as the event manager the inter-company sports fest is held as a means to further reward members of the private workforce for their contribution to the country.
Members of the public are welcome to show their support for the participating teams. There is no admission fee to witness the games at the Youth Centre.
