HIS Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Deputy Sultan, yesterday graced the first day of the 24th Brunei Age Group Swimming Championships at the Aquatics Centre of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex.
Also present were Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah binti Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab Rahaman; Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah; Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Muntaqim ibni Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Paduka Seri Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Anak Muneerah Madhul Bolkiah binti Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Paduka Seri Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah and Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Anak ‘Abdul Raqiib bin Pengiran Maharaja Setia Laila Diraja Sahibul Irshad Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Rahim.
Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Muntaqim achieved two new times in the 50-metre breaststroke and 50-metre freestyle whilst also competing in the 100-metre backstroke event.
Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Muntaqim broke the 1-minute mark in the 50-metre breaststroke after eclipsing his seed time of 1:02.08 which he previously set in the 4th Brunei Open Swimming Championships last November with a revised time of 59.21s.
Yang Teramat Mulia also bettered his seed time of 42.99s in a new time of 42.25s in the 50 meter freestyle as the second best finisher from the International School Brunei (ISB) only trailing to Anastase Guillou and ranked sixth overall in the 28-entrant race.
Yang Teramat Mulia also finished ninth with a time of 2:06.86 in the 100-metre backstroke event.
Also competing in the 50-metre freestyle was Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak ‘Abdul Haseeb bin Pengiran Maharaja Setia Laila Diraja Sahibul Irshad Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Rahim.
Shane Chong of the Sea Dragon Swimming Club claimed first place in both the 50-metre breaststroke and the 50-metre freestyle and in the process trimmed his seed time of 50.59s in a new time of 49.29s and a seed time of 37.92s in a new time of 37.38s, respectively.
The Sea Dragon Swimming Club swimmer also finished second in the 100 m backstroke breaking his seed time of 2:00.00 with a time of 1:38.81.
The three-day competition, which continues today, is being organised by the Brunei Amateur Swimming Association (BASA) with the cooperation of the Department of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.
