WITH the objective of further discussing the development of learning and teaching of Arabic language, the two-day international conference on Arabic language will be held on February 1 and 2.
The first-of-its-kind International Conference on Arabic Language in Southeast Asia 2017 is a collaborative effort by two higher education institutions – Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB) and Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA).
To share information on the event, a media conference was held yesterday at KUPU SB, which was chaired by the Director of Language Centre KUPU SB, Dr Haji Hambali bin Haji Jaili, , and Dean of Arabic Language Faculty UNISSA, Dr Siti Sara binti Haji Ahmad.
Dr Haji Hambali explained that the international conference will feature 40 academic discussions in the field of Arabic learning and teaching.
The event also see two keynote speeches, roundtable discussions and 37 paperwork presentations that will be delivered by invited speakers.
Among the speakers include those from Saudi Arabia, Oman, Sudan, Malaysia, and Indonesia and host country Brunei Darussalam.
The opening ceremony is scheduled to be held at KUPU SB while the closing ceremony will be at UNISSA.
Some 250 participants comprising academicians, government officers and staff, students and other individuals are expected to join the international seminar.
‘Al-Arabiyyah: Bahasa dan Tamadun Umat Islam’, or Arabic Language: Language and Muslim Civilisation’, is the main theme of the conference which will also discuss sub-themes that mainly focus on learning and teaching of Arabic Language in Southeast Asia; efforts made by Muslims in the field of learning and teaching of Arabic Language; Arabic learning institutions and their modules; and opportunities towards development of Arabic Language and its teaching in Southeast Asia.
Dr Siti Sara shared that at the end of the seminar there will be a fruitful discussion, and hoped that there will be continuous follow-up for conducting another series of the conference on Arabic Language as part of efforts in upholding the titah delivered by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam during KUPU SB 5th Convocation which highlighted the importance of enhancing learning and teaching of Arabic Language in Arabic schools.
Those who wish to participate in the conference can download entry forms from UNISSA’s and KUPU SB’s websites, or they can just walk in on the actual day. Participation fee for students is $15 while for government officials, staff and the members of the public it will be $30.
