A PRIZE presentation ceremony was held yesterday at the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA), for the participants of the National Level Maulud Procession last December.
The guest of honour was Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, the Minister of Religious Affairs, who later presented prizes to the competition winners.
In his welcoming remarks, Haji Idris bin Haji Aji, the co-chairman of the event said that 128 groups took part in last December’s Maulidur Rasul procession, with a total of 12,207 registered participants.
He also said that 98 groups participated as contestants, while 13 uniformed groups took part but did not compete.
Meanwhile, 18 groups from Arabic preparatory schools and religious schools only took part in the ‘Salawat’ performance at the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien in the capital.
First place in the Secondary School and Higher Learning Institute category went to Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (ITQSHHB), together with the cash prize of $6,500.
The winner in the Ministry and Department category was the Ministry of Development (MoD), with the cash prize of $4,000.
Telekom Brunei Berhad (TelBru) won in the Association and Private Sector category, with the cash prize of $2,500; while the Mosque Takmir committee and the Mosque Youth group of Kampong Perpindahan Serasa won in the Village and Mosque Takmir category, with the cash prize of $4,000.
Certificates of appreciation were also presented to the judges and sponsors of the event.
