THE all-female charity event, She Runs 2016, received a further boost with the sponsorship of airline tickets by Royal Brunei Airlines (RB) for the top three runners in the 3.7km and 5km categories.
Hailed as the ‘Best Airline provider in Asia in 2013’, RB is supporting the all-women’s charity run for the second consecutive time.
Managing Director of Fitness Zone, Wu Chun who is also RB’s International Brand Ambassador, shares the same virtues about the empowerment of local women with Royal Brunei Airlines, which currently employs three leading female pilots.
The three women were RB’s very first female trio at the flight deck of BI081, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, from Brunei to Jeddah.
Wu Chun said, “Captain Sharifah Czarena, Senior First Officer Dayangku Nadiah binti Pengiran Khashiem and Senior First Officer Sariana binti Nordin are really the pride of the nation.”
He went on to describe RB’s corporate culture “as promoting gender equality in the workplace. In today’s society, great leaders should not only possess male aggression and spunk, but also what women tend to be good at, which is having empathy and an eye for detail.”
As an ambassador to RB, he said, “I am so glad we share the same direction. That’s also one of the reasons why Fitness Zone has converted one of our health clubs into a women’s health club.
“To add to that, there’s the upcoming She Runs charity event to empower women, as well as creating awareness for children with cancer and Special Olympics athletes.”
Meanwhile, RB is pairing with Fitness Zone in the Corporal Happy and Healthy Workplace programme, which promotes physical fitness and wellbeing among the airline’s staff.
The health club also offers a variety of options to match the hectic work schedules of people from different industries.
Commenting on the initiative, Wu Chun said, “If the employees are healthy, they are also happy. Happy members of staff are essential for a company’s productivity and growth!”
In the latest update on She Runs 2016, there are already more than 1,200 confirmed registrations, with several participants from Europe, Japan, the United States and China.
Registration is now officially closed, but confirmation for registration can be done before April 18, at the Fitness Zone in Kiulap.
