FOLLOWING Telekom Brunei Berhad’s (TelBru) roll-out of its WiFi hotspot services last year, the next few months will witness a swell in its locations to over 90 locations that provide the portable service for better speeds.

Among the eyed locations to add to the current 59 on its list include hospitals as well as educational institutions – both private and public – with the ultimate end goal being, ‘WiFi access everywhere’, in strategic locations including Central Business Districts and locations where people converge including stadiums, said TelBru Chief Marketing Officer Lim Ming Soon.

The service provides customers the choice to access their fixed line accounts, making the TelBru Internet service mobile by simply logging on to TelBru’s website and entering customer details.

With such a project growing in its scope, the initiative is also slated to provide for those at the Brunei International Airport, making connectivity more convenient with the first 30 minutes free, emulating airport services in more advanced international economies.

For those looking to be connected longer, Lim said that TelBru is scheduled to introduce prepaid services starting next month where customers can purchase data on the go.

“We’ve had customers asking why we aren’t installing hotspots along the roads but we remind them that we aren’t supposed to drive distracted by our devices,” he rationalised.

Though most public locations such as eateries are already equipped with subscribed WiFi, he explained that there have been instances where customers experience slow speed due to congestion depending on the type of package that is subscribed to, feedback that could affect TelBru’s growing reputation as a reliable source for connectivity.

“The reason behind WiFi hotspots,” he explained, “is to uplift TelBru’s image,” where customers can enjoy their own personal subscription without being too dependent on shared access. Through this innovation, he said, the country’s image will also improve as a nation that has the capability to offer fast Internet services.

In its 10th year now with its anniversary marked every April since corporatisation, the company has advanced leap and bounds in improving its customer experience. To mark the occasion, TelBru is gifting its clients with free 10GB valid for 30 days starting today.
