THE Brunei Chess Federation on Sunday organised the January Sunday Chess Blitz 2017 at the Brunei Chess Centre, Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex.
The Open Category was won by Genesis Taccaban from the Philippines, followed by Awangku Hafidzon bin Pengiran Omar at second place, and in third place, Pengiran Haji Kamarunsalehin bin Pengiran Kamis.
The Under 20 (U20) category was won by Muhammad Ridhwan, while Zahirul Haq bin Zazali took second place and Muhd Iqbal bin Mohd Khir was placed third.
Nur Zahira binti Zazali was placed first in the Under 12 (U12) category, while Nur Zahraa binti Zazali won second place, followed by Mohd Nurarif Arsad in third place.

Present to award the winners was Pengiran Abdul Rahman bin PLW Yussof, Vice President of the Brunei Chess Federation, who said these Sunday events will be held almost every month to promote regular practice and training.
The fast-paced event featured nine rounds of play, with three minutes plus two seconds increment, a press release said.
