Embassy hosts reception to commemorate Royal Thai Armed Forces Day

THE Office of the Defence Attache of Thailand to Brunei Darussalam hosted a dinner reception last night at The Rizqun International Hotel to mark the Royal Thai Armed Forces Day, with First Admiral (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz bin Haji Mohd Tamit, the Deputy Minister of Defence, as the function’s guest of honour.

Also present were Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah, Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF), and Captain (Rtd) Abdul Rahman bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence.

In his speech, Biravij Suwanpradhes, the Ambassador of Thailand to Brunei Darussalam, highlighted the various capacities of the Royal Thai Armed Forces in supporting the government in both protecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as government’s national development efforts and assisting in times of natural disaster.

The ambassador also lauded the close relations between the Royal Thai Armed Forces and the RBAF in their interactions through bilateral and multilateral exercises, visits, professional exchanges and courses.

“Thailand and Brunei Darussalam have enjoyed close ties in every aspect, both bilateral level and under the Asean framework. These activities serve to foster the good understanding between our two nations as well as for building capacities in confronting challenges, such as disaster relief and ensuring maritime safety. I have every confidence that the relations between the Thai and Brunei armed forcers will continue to be enhanced in the years ahead, which will contribute to the peaceful environment of our Asean region for our future generations.”

Among the guests at last night’s reception were members of the Diplomatic Corps and high-ranking government officials.
