HER Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah binti Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab Rahaman yesterday attended the second day of the 24th Brunei Age Group Swimming Championships at the Aquatics Centre of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex yesterday.
Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Muntaqim ibni Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Paduka Seri Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, performing under the banner of International School Brunei, achieved new personal bests in the 100 metre freestyle after beating his old mark of 1:41.44 with a time of 1:35.89 and setting a new time of 54.14s in the 50 metre butterfly erasing his old mark of 1:00.34.
Also present at the swimming meet were Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah, Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Anak Muneerah Madhul Bolkiah binti Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Paduka Seri Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda Muhammad Aiman ibni Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Paduka Seri Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak ‘Abdul Raqiib bin Pengiran Maharaja Setia Laila Diraja Sahibul Irshad Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Rahim.
Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Muntaqim was joined by Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak ‘Abdul Haseeb bin Pengiran Maharaja Setia Laila Diraja Sahibul Irshad Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Rahim in the Boys 10-11 Years age group in the 100 metre freestyle.
Meanwhile, Brunei’s elite swimmer Nur Haziq Samil of Micia Swimming Team meant business after emerging victorious both in personal bests in the 100 metre freestyle and 50 metre butterfly.
Nur Haziq trimmed his old mark of 58.47s in a new time of 58.09s in the 100 metre freestyle while he smashed his previous time of 31.72s in a time of 29.72s in the 50 metre butterfly.
Brunei’s female star Ashley Chai claimed top place in the 50 metre butterfly setting a new personal best of 33.10s beating her old mark of 33.60s in addition to a pair of triumphs in the 400 metre freestyle and the 200 metre backstroke.
Royal Brunei Recreation Club star Sixtine Vellaud impressed with a couple of victories in the 50 metre butterfly and 50 metre freestyle events setting personal bests in the process.
Sixtine broke her old record of 38.83s with a time of 36.23s in the 50 metre freestyle and smashed her old mark of 46.50s with a time of 44.66s in the 50 metre butterfly.
Miri Amateur Swimming Association changed guards with Dolphin Swimming Club as the quartet of Alister Lee Chang Lin, Cheng Yi Xuan, Silas Hill and Hubert Ho Rze Jie steered to victory in the boys’ 4×50 metre freestyle relay at the expense of the quartet of Alfred Law, Abd Khalid Wafry, Kelvin Chua and Dylan Chua who had to settle for second place.
In the girls’ relay, Royal Brunei Recreation Club stemmed their dominance as the quartet of Domitille Vellaud, Natasha Sia, Ashley Chai and Andra Chai blew the chasing pack out of the waters with an unbeatable time of 1:20.05.
The three-day competition organised by the Brunei Amateur Swimming Association with the cooperation of the Department of Youth and Sports under the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, ends today.
