THE Tutong District Volunteers Group (SUKA), in collaboration with the Tutong District Office, held a donation ceremony yesterday for a victim of a recent house fire in Kampong Keriam, Tutong.
The recipient, Kalsum binti Haji Japar, is a single senior citizen who lost her house and possessions in a fire on April 12.
The donation ceremony was held at Kampong Keriam, where Kalsum currently resides. She was presented with gifts of clothing by Muhammad Amir bin Haji Umarali, the Head Secretariat of SUKA.
This is the second donation made by SUKA, in keeping with the Contribute and Assist programme launched earlier this year, to mark International Volunteer Day, which was celebrated for the first time in Brunei with the theme ‘Day of Action’.
The programme is a community project where members of the public can contribute new or used items, which are then distributed to those in need of assistance.
Also present during yesterday’s donation ceremony was Haji Morshidi bin Haji Mahadi, the Village Head of Kampong Keriam, together with representatives from the Tutong District Office and members of SUKA.
