SCHOOL of Science and Engineering of Politeknik Brunei (PB) Lumut Campus, recently saw the launching of their new battery powered car named ‘Politeknik Brunei SSE Yakin’ yesterday.
The battery powered car is the first of its kind from PB to represent our country in the competition that will be held around March 2017 in Singapore. The team that constructed the car from scratch consists of eight members including a mentor who is a lecturer at PB Lumut Campus.
Mohd Hifdzur Azmi bin Haji Mohd Zain, team manager and leader of the group, in an interview said, “We premiered our prototype car to show the public how little energy is consumed if used efficiently. We began with an idea that sprouted late September 2016 and from there on sourced the design on our own while looking for potential sponsors for and the results of our work can be seen in the completed prototype where the body of the car is made out of fiberglass and aluminum and shaped to cut through the air, resulting in speed exceeding 30km/h.”
In another interview with Pengiran Haji Md Alauddin bin Pengiran Haji Mumin, Lecturer in Mechanical Engineerin for PB said, “The car will hopefully be participating in a competition to see who can use the least amount of energy possible. They will be competiting in the electrical powered car category.”
The event began at 9.30am with the team members and lecturers giving a speech before showing a short film showcasing the prototype car.
Attendees were also given the chance to take photos with the team members together with the car.
