THE Rimba Secondary School (SMR) yesterday held a graduation for the Pre-Vocational students and 4th Cohort of the BTEC 2015 and awards ceremony for the school’s highest achievers for their hard work and determination in obtaining outstanding achievements in their ‘O’ Level Examination last year.

The ceremony took place at the school’s multipurpose hall. Present as the guest of honour was Acting Director-General of Education, Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Nawi.

Upon his arrival, the guest of honour was welcomed by the school’s Principal Haji Malai Shah Eran bin Syed Haji Yussof and was ushered to a group photo session before proceeding to the school’s hall.

The ceremony then commenced with the students’ procession entering the school’s hall followed with the recitation of Dikir Marhaban and the sprinkling of scented flowers to the celebrated students. It then continued with the singing of the national anthem and the recitation of the verses from the Al-Quran prior to the welcoming remarks from the school’s principal.

In his remark, Haji Malai Shah Eran congratulated the students for their efforts during the examination and stressed the effort undertaken by the students to excel to the best of their abilities.

Although, he said, the school’s academic achievement has dropped by 10.86 per cent (from 46.88 per cent in 2014 to 36.02 per cent in 2015), he nonetheless expressed his appreciation to the teachers, parents and guardians for their continuous support.

He further stated that the school will continue to develop and refine the school’s programmes such as Intervention Programme, Pullout System, Reading Recovery Programme, Multiplication Genius, PEKA Programme, MP3 Programme, Scholastic Programme and many others that have been implemented with a commitment towards personalising learning and creating engaging, student-centred learning experiences.

Apart from that, he also highlighted religious activities that have been carried out by the students such as reciting the Asma ul-Husna, Doa Iman, Surah Taha, Al-Quran recitation every Thursday, Tadarus Al-Quran and others in gaining blessings from Allah the Almighty towards achieving success in their academics.

Meanwhile, Haji Abdul Rahman urged students who will be sitting for their upcoming examinations to remain focused and do their best at this time and not do “cramming sessions” at the last minute.

He also shared some tips and techniques of studying smart with the students yesterday.

He added that the Ministry of Education (MoE) is aware that the young generation is the nation’s asset hence the need to mobilise its efforts towards equipping them with the knowledge and skills that are balanced in terms of physical, spiritual, intellectual, discipline and capability in facing future challenges towards preserving the progress and prosperity of its citizen.

The event later saw the presentation of awards to a total of 69 students who received trophies and certificates according to their respective categories presented by the guest of honour.

In an interview with Awangku Ahmad Waa’iz bin Pengiran Haji Samsudin, a recipient of the Top 3 Award, he said that he did not expect that it would happen but was very pleased and proud of his achievement.

The ceremony then ended with a Tausyeh performance.
