THE Japanese Language and Cultural Week of 2017 was officially launched last night at the Times Square Shopping Centre in Berakas.
Officiating at the launching ceremony were Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, and his spouse.
The Japanese Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam, Noriko Iki, said in her welcoming remarks that the three-day event would be featuring performances from a traditional Japanese drum ensemble, contemporary Japanese painting, cooking demonstrations, Kendo performances, quiz shows and kite-making workshops.
“Regarding tourism and culture, we have a delegation from Miyazaki prefecture…that is attending this event to introduce some of the fruit that they produce, and will be providing free samplings of fresh fruit from Miyazaki prefecture,” she said.
The General Manager of Times Square, Amal Majidah said, “Times Square is proud to announce that this year marks the fifth time that we are co-hosting such an event with the Embassy of Japan.
“Not only are we able to showcase Japanese culture here, we have also strengthened our ties with our Japanese counterparts in the country, giving both sides a better understanding of each other.”
