BRUNEIANS and others around the world can learn Japanese anytime with the introduction of the Japanese e-learning ‘Minato’ introduced by the Japan Foundation, Japanese officials said yesterday.

“Minato is a Japanese language e-learning platform with material designed to enable anyone to easily learn Japanese language. It will provide access to those who wish to learn the Japanese language, but have no language school nearby or people who do not know where to begin learning,” Rie Arai, First Secretary of the Japanese Embassy in Brunei Darussalam said.

She revealed these details at a press conference at the embassy premises yesterday.

Minato also allows anyone in the online environment to learn Japanese using a computer, tablet or smartphone. The course includes the Marugoto Course, an integrated teaching method for Japanese language and culture, the Hiragana/Katakana course focusing on written characters and the Anime/Manga Japanese language course, where learners can enjoy Japanese Anime/Manga at the same time as acquiring the language,” she said.

Arai said beside the self-study courses, ‘tutor-supported courses’ are also available to assist assignments, evaluations and live sessions with teachers.

“The online community offers the chance to communicate and interact with other Japanese language learners worldwide,” she said.

Arai said she was pleased to learn that there was an increase in Bruneians keen to learn the Japanese language and culture.

“I am very glad to know that many Bruneians are interested in learning the Japanese language and culture. We will do our best to provide the opportunity for the public to learn Japanese language,” she said.

Kishimoto Saki, researcher was also present at the press briefing.
