CEREMONIES were held across the country yesterday to witness the lowering of the giant national flag, marking the conclusion of the 33rd National Day celebrations.
At the open area of the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex, the ceremony began with the marching in of 33 flag-bearers made up of Royal Brunei Armed Forces cadets, followed by Royal Brunei Navy personnel.
Receiving the flag from Royal Brunei Navy personnel, Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs cum guest of honour Dato Paduka Awang Haji Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud then handed it over to an officer from the Adat Istiadat Negara Department (JAIN).
Permanent secretaries at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Dato Paduka Dr Haji Affendy bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin and Datin Paduka Dr Hajah Norlila binti Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Jalil, as well as permanent secretaries and deputy permanent secretaries from government ministries, and other senior government officers attended the event.
Meanwhile, the ceremony in the Tutong District saw Assistant Tutong District Officer Haji Adnan bin Haji Adam attending as the guest of honour.
Held at the Tutong District Civic Centre Complex, the flag was ceremoniously lowered by Royal Brunei Police Force personnel and handed over to the Assistant Tutong District Officer.
Tutong District Office officials and Tutong District volunteers were among the attendees at the event.
In the Belait District, the flag was lowered at Menara Cendara Kenangan, with Belait District Officer Haji Haris bin Othman attending as the guest of honour.
After the singing of the national anthem, Royal Brunei Police Force personnel lowered the flag and handed it over to the guest of honour.
