BRUNEI’S  famed marathon runner Sefli Ahar overcame scorching heat and then wet conditions to capture the 100km Ultra Trail – Solo title of the Beach Bunch’s Trail Challenge 2017.

Sefli came out tops after clocking 12:06:56s.

Won Ho Yuen from Hong Kong finished second, followed by Chung Ming of Brunei.

This was the first 100km competition that Sefli had won.

Last year in the same competition, the prolific marathon runner finished first in the 42km category in 3:54:23s.

“It was one of the toughest races that I had ever competed in. It really pushed my mental and physical strengths to the limit.

“We had to run in the rain and cold as well as the slippery slope of Bukit Silat in wet conditions, climb the 14 hills in Shahbandar, and run on the beach from Tungku to Berakas Forest Reserve under the hot sun.

“By the time I reached Bukit Shahbandar, I knew that I had established a wide gap between me and my nearest rival.

“When I completed the beach run, I slowed down to reach the crossing line.”

Sefli added that his next race is the Kota Kinabalu 42km full marathon on May 7.
