A HANDOVER ceremony was held at the Brunei History Centre yesterday, during which students from the Academy of Brunei Studies at Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) submitted their findings from the Kampong Ayer History Research Project 2016.

The event’s guest of honour was Associate Professor Ampuan Dr Haji Brahim bin Ampuan Haji Tengah, the Director of Academy of Brunei Studies.

The research project, which was initiated through Workshops for Methods of Historical Research last February, was aimed at attributing basic knowledge of historical research methodologies, through means of interviews and academic writing.

The three-month project essentially enabled the students to compile their findings into academic form. The project also involved around 10 officers from the history centre, who coordinated the project flow for students undergoing the Module PB1301 – “Brunei Society and Culture”.

During the course of their research, the participants gathered information from various sources, including oral interviews and vintage photographs.

Main areas covered in the project included Kampong Setia, Kampong Lurong Sikuna, Kampong Burung Pingai, Kampong Sumbiling and Kampong Sungai Kedayan.

The entire project also gave the UBD students a first-hand opportunity to explore the historical side of the Water Village.
