CULTURAL performances enlivened Self-Actualisation ‘Every Child is a Gift’ Camp organised by the Special Education Unit, Ministry of Education (MoE) at the camp grounds at Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College recently.
The performances were presented by participants of the camp comprising 34 special needs students from Years 9 and 11.
Present as guest of honour was Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar, Deputy Minister of Education.
Parents, officers from the MoE and various volunteers from organisations including the Brunei Darussalam Scouts Association, Humanitarian Emergency Aid Response Team (HEART), Politeknik Brunei and the netball team from the Brunei Darussalam Sports Council were also present.
The event began with a welcoming speech from Haji Ali bin Yusri Abdul Ghafor, Head of the Special Education Unit, followed by camp participants showcasing various traditional local songs and dances.
Those in attendance were also treated to a group singing performance led by local artiste Aziz Harun.
The event concluded with the guest of honour presenting certificates to the camp par-ticipants as well as the various volunteers.
The camp, held from March 17 – 19, aimed to foster independence, social and team building skills among participants through various activities.
“The camp would not have be-en possible without the support from our dedicated volunteers, our energetic campers and our sponsors,” said Haji Ali Yusri.
