TABUAN ‘A’ emerged Under-15 winners in the 4th DST Futsal Cup for Orphans after accumulating a total of 9 points in the round robin stage at the NFABD Artificial Field yesterday.
Najip FC claimed the Under-12 title after collecting a total of 12 points in the round-robin stage.
Kota Ranger FC finished second in the Under-15 category with a total of 6 points while Menglait FC settled for third place with 3 points.
MS ABDB finished as runners-up with 9 points in the Under-12 category while Wijaya FC ended in third place with 6 points.
Mohd Waez Shami Haji Mohd Noor scooped the top scorer award in the Under-15 category after bagging four goals while Md Abd Hafiz Shamsul Rizal was awarded top scorer in the Under-12 category after notching seven goals.
The annual tournament is an initiative under the DST’s community corporate social responsibility program “Ihsan Kasih” and is supported by the National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD).
Over 70 orphans from all districts were estimated to take part in the event.
The event began with registration and distribution of football jersey kits to all the players contributed by DST.
This was followed with opening remarks from Ibrahim Abu Bakar, former national goalkeeper and a Malaysia Cup winner in 1999.
The guest of honour at the event was Suhaimi Hussain, the CEO of DST, who was introduced to the teams.
The names of the teams were popularised by sides in the Brunei DST Super League.
Presenting the prizes was Radin Sufri Radin Basiuni, Assistant General Manager of Group Corporate Communications in DST.
The extent of the support DST provides for the development of football in Brunei permeates across all levels, and has been steadily increasing in effectiveness substantially every year from the grassroots level to the veterans through its corporate social responsibility initiatives “Ihsan Kasih” by collaborating closely with government agencies, associations and clubs in the country.
