YOUTH interest in the development of Brunei’s ICT industry – through Telekom Brunei Berhad (TelBru) Smart Nation initiative – is gaining momentum, with the total number of boot camp registrants now at over 100 students.
These students are from the five schools that have since the beginning of this year hosted the Smart Nation Roadshow in Belait and Brunei-Muara districts.
The Smart Nation boot camps expose participants, aged between 15 and the early 20s, to the dynamics and possibilities of TelBru’s ICT initiative that leverages upon the company’s strategic partnership with international experts Kony and LoRa Alliance, which specialises in mobile application development and long range, low power wireless platform respectively.
Thus far, the number of signups (which is expected to grow) provides clear insight into Brunei’s young talent, as explained by TelBru Chief Marketing Officer Lim Ming Soon, who noted that interest among the younger community is a promising start in the development of Brunei’s technological fora – a field which continues to hold an abundance of possibilities in addressing global urban challenges that require action.
“We set out on this mission to educate the future movers of ICT in the country, simply due to the important role they play in shaping the Brunei Vision 2035. We are encouraged by the uptake, especially early on in this initiative.
“Our hope for this movement is to elevate the awareness among our children that their ideas can be translated into worldly solutions with potential to cross boundaries limited only by their imagination,” he added.
The advent of new technology that TelBru is embracing for the masses continues to impact other nations that have adopted them with the likes of Europe, the United States, South Korea, Japan and Singapore already testing concepts and theories that ride on the backbone of ICT, whilst engaging young minds to co-invest in the future.
Playing its role in realising Brunei’s full ICT potential, TelBru will continue with its outreach programme and evolve as demanded by the industry.
Those who wish to be part of this industrial revolution are encouraged to contact the company’s headquarters or through any of its social media platforms.
