HIS Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday evening attended a State Banquet in honour of the monarch’s State Visit to the Republic of the Philippines.
The banquet was held at the Malacañan Palace and was hosted by Rodrigo Roa Duterte, President of the Philippines.
Upon arrival at Malacañan Palace, His Majesty was welcomed by the Philippine President. The event began with a welcoming address by Duterte.
During the State Banquet, His Majesty delivered a titah in which the monarch expressed happiness to receive President Rodrigo Duterte’s State Visit to Brunei Darussalam in October 2016. His Majesty highlighted that the regular exchanges of visits across all levels reflect the close friendship and goodwill between the two countries.
His Majesty observed that Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of the Philippines enjoy long-standing relations, especially with strong people-to-people links and acknowledged the role of the 23,000 Filipino nationals working in Brunei Darussalam in making significant contributions to Brunei Darussalam’s socio-economic development.
His Majesty expressed confidence that economic ties between Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of the Philippines will continue to progress to create a more conducive environment for business people to network and collaborate in areas such as Halal and agro-based industries.
The monarch also reaffirmed Brunei Darussalam’s commitment in working with the Philippines in maintaining peace and stability in the region, in particular through Brunei Darussalam’s participation in the International Monitoring Team in Southern Philippines.
His Majesty extended Brunei Darussalam’s full support for the Republic of the Philippines’ Chairmanship of Asean in 2017 as the association celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.
At the end of the titah, His Majesty extended the best wishes of the people of Brunei Darussalam and looked forward to strengthening the long-standing ties shared between both countries.
His Majesty will also be attending the 30th Asean Summit and Related Meetings, which will be held in Manila, the Philippines on April 29, 2017.
