A LOCAL firm achieved a milestone when it successfully conducted marine salvage operations in Brunei’s waters recently, making it the first company to offer professional marine salvage services in the Sultanate.
Dara Shipping and Trading Sdn Bhd (DARA), a 100 per cent locally-run firm based in the Belait District, retrieved its fourth vessel in its latest underwater operations, with the strong force of its locally qualified staff who are CSWIP 3.4U (Subsea Underwater Inspection Controller)-certified, according to a press statement from the company.
Formed in 2014, the company currently specialises in marine engineering services, construction planning, waste management, commercial diving and remotely operated vehicle (ROV) services to the Brunei Government, services to the oil and gas industry, civil engineering and other related industries.
With a team of experienced and qualified staff, the firm is also capable of providing a range of underwater services – including underwater diving inspections, underwater construction, underwater cutting and welding, marine salvage from cleaning to retrieving lost items.
DARA said the company which currently has over 100 locals as employees, welcomes more local involvement and reiterated its commitment in recruiting more potential Bruneians to join the dynamic team, in line with Local Business Development (LBD) requirements set out by the Energy and Industry Department at the Prime Minister’s Office.
With quality and safety aspects in mind at all time, the company said it looks forward to realise its vision of getting certifications from Bureau Veritas (BV) and International Marine Contractor Associations (IMCA).
