THE national level ‘Packed Biscuits and Cakes Ready for Export Competition 2017’ is a good initiative to identify locals with strong potential, and have them embark on the next level – the global market.
National Chamber of Commerce and Industry Brunei Darussalam (NCCIBD) Advisor and leading businessman Captain (Rtd) Zailan bin Pehin Dato Mohd Don yesterday said this during the launch of the competition at the Knowledge Hub in Anggerek Desa.
Australian High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Nicola Rosenblum was also present at the competition launch.
Moving away from the non-oil and gas industry to ensure a sustainable economy requires tremendous effort and teamwork. This is also in line with the Brunei Vision 2035, Captain (Rtd) Zailan said.
The Cottage and Youth Initiative Programme (CYiP) at the i-Centre plays an important role in promoting Brunei’s small businesses to the Asean Economic Community, Asean plus South Korea, China and Japan, as well as the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East Asean Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA), which is in line with the government’s strategic plan for local economic development and bilateral trade opportunities.
In addressing the current challenges, on top of promoting entrepreneurial influence to create self-employment, CYiP’s primary plan focuses on promoting businesses through www.cubejunction.com, which is an online retail platform for premium products, Halal products, value added products and small volume trading. It provides services for nano and micro businesses, as well as small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
CYiP is committed to facilitating efforts to address the challenges faced by nano and micro businesses, as well as SMEs, which include product quality control, volume production, quality packaging, high operating expenses and market access.
Captain (Rtd) Zailan said the CYiP programme is moving well ahead of the propose timeline. He also expressed gratitude to DARe (Darussalam Enterprise) for assisting CYiP with this programme to promote local businesses.
In transition to non-oil and gas sector businesses, DARe is very much strategically relevant to the development of the local nano and micro businesses and SME businesses, effectively providing them with the ease of doing businesses through facilitation.
The competition is organised by local social marketplace Cube Junction. Local chefs and cooks submitted their entries to the iCentre in Kampong Anggerek Desa for judging, which commenced yesterday. The names of the winners will be announced on May 19.
