WITH the opening of the Telanai-Beribi flyover on Saturday night, April 29, traffic jams along Jalan Jangsak have become just a memory.
The Bulletin went to survey the usage of the Telanai-Beribi flyover on the first day since its opening around 8am yesterday. Traffic flow coming from Sengkurong and Kilanas was smooth, however, there were still jams at the two roundabouts in Beribi yesterday morning.
A village resident from Kampong Sengkurong, Aini, said: “Previously the traffic became snail-paced even before 6.30am during weekdays, as motorists coming from Kilanas, Sengkurong were using this lane to go to the capital.
“For the past several years, we’ve seen cars moving slowly bumper-to-bumper stretching as far as Kampong Tanjung Bunut, and one would get stuck in traffic for about half an hour daily during peak hours.”
Meanwhile, Jamal, who uses the road to get to his office in Gadong, said that “it can sometimes be stressful getting stuck in traffic on the way to and from work daily”.
The flyover, one of the 10th National Development Plan (RKN 10) projects, was constructed to alleviate the traffic congestion problem in the area, as the current traffic-lighted junction is unable to cope with the continuously growing traffic volume.
Last week, motorists were notified by the Public Works Department (PWD) that modification works on the traffic lights at the Beribi Industrial Area roundabout is currently being carried out to cater to changing traffic conditions.
All road users are advised to drive with extra caution and obey the traffic signs. To report issues or submit complaints, members of the public can contact the department via Darussalam line, 123 or LiveChat: 8333123; or message them through their Facebook account https://www.facebook.com/JKRBrunei/ or email: pro@pwd.gov.bn.
