SERI Pahlawan Brunei Darussalam team, recently took home the Labuan trophy in the Boat Tug-of-War Competition, one of the contests organised annually in the Labuan International Sea Challenge 2017 (LISC) held for 11 days at the International Sea Sports Complex, Labuan.
In the competition, Seri Pahlawan Brunei Darussalam Team consisting 10 male paddlers, won all the rounds and also set the record for the fastest time of the day at 00:11:08 seconds, beating Team Ganas B in second place and Team Ganas A in third place – both Teams from the Federal Territory of Labuan.
By winning this competition, Seri Pahlawan team brought home a cash prize of RM2,000, medals for all members of the team and a champion trophy.
In other events, Seri Pahlawan Brunei Darussalam Team also competed in the International Sea Kayak Challenge 2017 around the island of Labuan for a distance of 50 kilometres, in which they all managed to complete the race in Top 10.
Hassan bin Haji Zainal came fourth in the Men’s Single Open with a time of 6:09:53 hours, while Khairul Anuar bin Abdullah and Rodi Rotuno bin Abdullah won seventh in the Men’s Double Open with a time of 6:16:51 hours.

In the Mixed Double Open category,Shahminan bin Ariffin and Joanna Rachel binti Haji Osman completed the race in fourth place with a time of 6:12:11 hours, Md Shafie Azizi bin Haji Khudzairi and Hetty Hartini binti Talip in eighth place with a time of 6:42:12 hours whereas Murni bin Haji Zainal and Azlinawati binti Haji Puasa were placed ninth with a time of 6:46:58 hours.
The delegation to Labuan consisted 16 people including the manager, technical support team as well as the participants.
The Manager and Coach of Seri Pahlawan Brunei Darussalam team, Ariffin bin Haji Zainal said he was proud of the achievements of the members of the team in the Labuan International Sea Challenge 2017 (LISC) and was looking forward to next year’s event.
The Kayak Challenge is an international event where 81 participants come from different countries such as Terengganu, Johor, Indonesia, and Japan.
This year’s events which attracted thousands of local and international participants were held from April 27 to May 1 and included the annual Cross Channel Swimming Competition, Island to Island Fishing Tournament,
Round Island Kayak Challenge, Boat Tug-of-War, Beach Soccer, Water Taxi Boat Race, Sandcastle Building Competition and Sailing on Perahu Larai.
