THE Bruneian teams that took part in the 8th Asia Pacific International Amateur Bodybuilding and Fitness Championship 2017 did the country proud when they brought home five medals from the event which was held over three days from April 28 in Manila, the Philippines.
Muhd Ridwan bin Omar from JJ Gym and Pengiran Hemirule bin Pengiran Haji Yaakub from the GOBANG/ROTZZ Team won first place in the Classic/Athletic Bodybuilding (Class 1) and Classic/Athletic Bodybuilding (Class 2) respectively.
The team leader of DG Team, Md Saad @ Wadud bin Haji Abu Bakar, came in second place for Men’s Open Bodybuilding Medium Division, while Mohd Yusri Hannah bin Laihan from 3M Gym took two third-place spots – in the Classic/Athletic Bodybuilding (Class 1) and Men Bodybuilding (Medium Division).
Meanwhile, a team member from JJ Gym, Azrin bin Haji Magon, took the fourth spot for the Men’s Physique Class A and Jude from Jay Classic Bootcamp also ranked fourth in the Men Physique Class C category.
Speaking on behalf of the teams representing Brunei at the championship, Wadud expressed gratitude and happiness with the Bruneian teams’ success, which by far has been the best achievement compared to other past championships abroad.
“It was a hard and competitive competition, as most of the athletes were good and professional bodybuilders, but it was a great experience and challenge for most of us, and has motivated us to do better in our next participation of similar championships,” said Wadud.
“The event was well-organised and we were also given a very warm welcome by the organisers as well as the other participating athletes,” he added.
Teams from Brunei will be participating in several more championships this year, with the Man of Steel event this month in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore in September and Bangkok in October.
