HIS Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Minister of Defence and Supreme Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF), consented to award the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) Command Badge to Vice Admiral Ronald Joseph S Mercado, Flag-Officer-In-Command of the Philippine Navy (FOIC PN).
The RBN Command Badge was awarded to Vice Admiral Ronald Joseph S Mercado in recognition and appreciation of his efforts to enhance good working relations between the RBN and PN.
The award was presented by Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah, the Commander of the RBAF, yesterday morning at the RBN Headquarters.
Following this, Vice Admiral Ronald Joseph S Mercado made a courtesy call on First Admiral Pengiran Dato Seri Pahlawan Norazmi bin Pengiran Haji Muhammad, Commander of the RBN.
During the call, both admirals discussed the involvement of the two countries’ navies in further joint exercises, exchange programmes, and ship visits.

Vice Admiral Ronald Joseph S Mercado also made introductory calls on First Admiral (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz bin Haji Mohd Tamit, the Deputy Minister of Defence; and the Commander of the RBAF.
During the introductory call on the Deputy Minister of Defence, First Admiral (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz congratulated Vice Admiral Ronald Joseph S Mercado on his appointment as the 36th FOIC PN.
Both sides expressed their satisfaction on the warm and friendly relation between the navies of the two countries. Vice Admiral Ronald Joseph S Mercado reiterated their commitment in further strengthening their naval-related activities through the exchange of visits, dialogues and exercises.
Vice Admiral Ronald Joseph S Mercado assumed the post of FOIC PN on November 12, 2016. He, accompanied by his spouse, arrived in Brunei on May 10 for an official three-day introductory visit.
