PERMANENT Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Datin Paduka Dr Hajah Norlila binti Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Jalil recently launched the e-Library project at the Lambak Kanan Library.

Incorporated as part of the e-Government project under the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, the e-Library utilises a Library Management System that included 14 libraries within a network.

The e-Library includes a portal, a portfolio, hardware and EnvisionWare to benefit the participating libraries, namely – Language and Literature Bureau, Ministry of Religious Affairs library, Attorney General’s Chambers library, Islamic Da’wah Centre library, Brunei Museums libraries and Brunei History Centre library.

The project will ease the users and officers of the participating government departments in material research and reading.

The e-Library can be accessed at https://www.librarybrunei.gov.bn/library, and this portal can also be explored by the public. Users can conduct their material research by filling in relevant details or by registering online for library membership.

Options are available to users for book borrowing, returning the reading material at the counter, or they can use a kiosk for book borrowing and a bookdrop for returning books.

These options will lessen dependency on library staff and increase user privacy.

Users can extend the borrowing date of a book or make book booking through the library portal, or by using the Bookmyne app.

Users can also return borrowed books or materials at any library branch of the Language and Literature Bureau, or at Bestari Community Centre in Kampong Rimba or Kampong Lumut.

The e-Library is equipped with e-books, online journals, and material references that have been digitalised with the help of ProQuest.

The material can be accessed using iPads or computers at the libraries.

Language and Literature Bureau also has an autism-friendly library, the first in the country.

The event also saw the presentations of iPads to library branches of Language and Literature Bureau as well as books from the High Commission of Singapore.

Queries can be made by contacting the secretariat at 2235501.
