AS A measure to further enhance its standing as a one-stop centre for specialist treatment, the Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah (PMMPMHAMB) Hospital in Tutong, plans to increase the opening days of its day-case endoscopy unit clinic to five days a week within six months.
The clinic is currently open three days a week. In the past, it was open two days a week.
Dr Norazlina binti Haji Abdul Rahman, Consultant and Acting Medical Superintendent at PMMPMHAMB Hospital, relayed this to the press yesterday on the sidelines of a Muzakarah (sharing) session between the Ministry of Health (MoH) and stakeholders in the Tutong District.
The sharing session was hosted at the Tutong District Officer’s official residence.
Dr Norazlina said the increased opening days for the endoscopy clinic is to make it easier for patients to be registered, diagnosed and treated under one roof, including follow ups.
This will also improve the number of cases that can be handled within a period of time.
She said that at present, the endoscopy unit at PMMPMHAMB Hospital caters to patients referred internally and Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital. Once the unit stabilises, the aim is to eventually cater to all patients within the country as it strives to become a centre of excellence.
Dr Norazlina also discussed the development and improvement of cataract surgery (under ophthalmology services) at PMMPMHAMB Hospital.
According to her, the hospital began performing cataract surgeries in September last year.
The hospital initially only performed surgeries on internal patients, but later catered to patients from RIPAS Hospital.
More than 180 cataract patients have undergone surgery at the hospital until March this year. Dr Norazlina said that the waiting time for patients to be informed of their surgery dates has also been improved; patients will now be notified within a week after registration.
Another further development area for PMMPMHAMB Hospital, according to Dr Norazlina, is the provision of urology services. She said by providing urology services at PMMPMHAMB Hospital, services and operations can be made more efficient.
She said PMMPMHAMB Hospital hopes to introduce and expand urology services in the near future.
Senior officials from the MoH; members of the Legislative Council; Tutong District Officer; penghulus, village heads and chiefs of longhouses; officers from government departments; and private firms and NGOs from the Tutong District also participated in yesterday’s meeting.
The session began with a Surah Al-Fatihah recitation, continuing with a welcoming speech by Mohammad Sabri bin Haji Anuar, Head of Services Operation, MoH. Several briefings on the current status and development at the Ministry of Health were also presented by senior officers from the MoH.
The session was a continuation of similar sessions held in other districts. Matters relating to the Tutong District were discussed yesterday.
Among this was the MoH initiatives to transform PMMPMHAMB Hospital into a “Centre of Excellence” providing high quality medicare to the people.
PMMPMHAMB Hospital is a “One-stop Centre” where patients are registered, diagnosed and treated under one roof, with specialist services such as cataract surgery, endoscopy services and gastroenterology being provided.
This sort of structure contributes towards the betterment of hospital services, which falls in line with one of the MoH’s strategic priorities, which is to provide the best services through the consolidation and rearrangement of healthcare services.
