FOLLOWING its earlier success, the ‘Kuala Belaitku Ceria’ programme was held again yesterday, bringing families and friends together for a day of bonding and fun activities.
Jalan Sungai was cordoned off to prevent motor vehicles from entering, allowing foot traffic and cyclists to move freely, while booths offering everything from food and drinks to clothes and confectionery dotted the sides of the road.
Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong officiated the Family Day celebration in his capacity as the guest of honour.
Also in attendance were Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, Legislative Council members YB Haji Abdul Hamid bin Haji Mumin and YB Hanapi bin Mohd Siput, permanent and deputy permanent secretaries at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Belait District Officer Haji Haris bin Othman, as well as the Mukim penghulus and village heads in the Belait District.
A host of Family Day activities helped drive home the message that a tight-knitted family plays an important role in building a strong community.
The guest of honour toured the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) booths, which included one showcasing items from the One Village, One Product (1K1P). A karate and Wushu performance, classic car meet and a 4×4 car show were also held.
Meanwhile, the Mosque Affairs Department (Belait District) and Mohammad Jamalul Alam Mosque Takmir committee members held the ‘Riadah Sihat’ (healthy leisure activities).
Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin attended as the guest of honour. Other attendees included Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Dato Paduka Awang Haji Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud, as well as the acting permanent secretary and senior officials from the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin launched the 13km cycling expedition (for men), and a 3.6km walkathon (for women).
The minister also handed over donations to six underprivileged families residing in the Belait District.
An Al-Fatihah recitation clinic, prayer demonstration for the ill, ablution procedure, ‘Tayammum’ procedure as well as a ‘Muafiq and Masbuk’ clinic were also lined up for the day.
Earlier, Subuh prayer and a religious talk delivered by Ustaz Abdul Rahman bin Haji Ajak were held.
The Kuala Belaitku Ceria programme is a government initiative to promote strong family bonds and provide SMEs the opportunity to promote their products, while the healthy leisure activities aims to promote the adoption of a healthier lifestyle among members of the public.
