BRUNEI Darussalam’s national Qari and Qariah competitors, Awangku Muhammad Adibul Amin bin Pengiran Haji Marjuki and Hajah Siti Noor Dzuhairah binti Haji Awang Damit, and the rest of the Brunei delegation were greeted with a Hadrah and Dikir Marhaban performance as they entered the Arrival Hall of the Brunei International Airport after arriving in the country yesterday afternoon.
This was followed by a recitation of Doa Selamat and Doa Kesyukuran by Imam Haji Hanafi bin Haji Mahmud.
The duo competed in the 59th international Al-Quran Recitation and Memorisation Assembly held at the Dewan Merdeka, Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), Kuala Lumpur. The competition from May 15-20, 2017, was participated by representatives from 70 countries. They clinched second place in the male and female Al-Quran recitation categories of the competition.
Accompanying the two were guide Dato Paduka Awang Haji Mohd Yusop bin Bakar and delegation leader, Haji Idris bin Haji Aji, a senior religious officer from the Islamic Syiar Development Division of the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA).
Welcoming the Brunei delegation were Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Home Affairs; Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs; Dato Paduka Awang Haji Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud, Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs; permanent secretary, deputy permanent secretaries, senior officers and staff members of the MoRA; and officers from the Islamic Syiar Development Division of the MoRA.
In an interview with the Bulletin, Awangku Muhammad Adibul Amin said in a relieving tone, “I was delighted to have achieved a runner-up finish and I’m grateful to my guide, Dato Paduka Awang Haji Mohd Yusof and his teachings, which I applied during the reading of the Musabaqah.”
Hajah Siti Noor Dzuhairah also expressed similar feelings, “Alhamdulillah, I felt overwhelmed because we didn’t expect to win second place for each of our categories at the competition,” she said.
Asked about the challenges faced during the competition, Awangku Muhammad Adibul Amin said that despite the presence of strong competitors from other countries, who have undergone better training and possess more experience, he and his competition partner managed to pull through thanks to the training, prayers, and support from their parents, teachers, and the Brunei public.
Hajah Siti Noor Dzuhairah concluded by giving some advice for Brunei’s youth, “Those who are interested in the area of Al-Quran, they should practice continuously, gain better understanding in Tajwid, Fasahah – in terms of the sound and rhythm, and be open to new techniques and methods of learning.”
