THE Bruneians Around Sydney Society (BASS) committee of 2017/18, with the help of members, yesterday hosted a mass Iftar with the Islamic society (ISOC) of the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Sydney, Australia.
The mass Iftar is held annually by the ISOC, and BASS never fails to take part and contribute.
The event serves as a means of sharing Brunei’s religious culture with UNSW’s Muslim society as well as contributing to their fundraising cause, which is to collect donations for a mosque in the eastern suburbs of Sydney.
Bruneian students managed to collect AUD4,000 worth of donations.
The BASS committee of 2017/18 also extended their highest appreciation to all the donors who have supported and made the event a success.
The Bruneians hosted 400 people comprising local and international Muslims associated with UNSW and ISOC.
“The food is so good!” said one ISOC member during the big feast, which took place after mass Maghrib prayer led by Muhammad Syazwan bin Sahdun, the BASS committee’s current religious officer.
The hosting of the mass iftar also reminded the Bruneian students that working together and helping one another play a big part in the community.
The event cemented the close relationship that BASS has with ISOC and will open up more opportunities for future collaborations.
