THE Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB) under the Ministry of Religious Affairs held Zakat handout in the form of basic necessities to selected recipients yesterday, in a simultaneously coordinated event across the Belait and Tutong districts.
Four mosques became the main focus for the donations: Zainab Mosque in Kampong Lumut, Pengiran Muda Abdul Wakeel Mosque in Kampong Kiudang, Hassanal Bolkiah Mosque in Pekan Tutong and Muhammad Jamalul Alam Mosque in Kuala Belait.
The ceremony at Zainab Mosque in Kampong Lumut was officiated by Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs, in his capacity as the President of MUIB.
The minister presided over the distribution of Zakat to 30 heads of families, at the venue.
Also present were Legislative Council (LegCo) members YB Haji Abdul Hamid bin Haji Mumin, the Penghulu of Mukim Liang, and YB Hanapi bin Mohd Siput, the Village Head of Kampong Labi I.

The ceremony at the Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Wakeel Mosque in Kampong Kiudang was officiated by Dato Paduka Awang Haji Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud, the Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs, in his capacity as Deputy President of MUIB, where 12 heads of families were presented with the donations.
The ceremony at the Hassanal Bolkiah Mosque in Pekan Tutong was officiated by Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Setia Raja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Suhaili bin Haji Mohiddin, in his capacity as a member of MUIB, during which 21 heads of families received the donations.
The ceremony at the Muhammad Jamalul Alam Mosque in Kuala Belait was officiated by Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Japar bin Haji Mat Dain @ Haji Maidin, in his capacity as a member of MUIB, in which 27 heads of families received the donations.
Overall, 90 heads of families received basic daily necessities in yesterday’s distribution event, consisting of fragrant rice, cooking oil and other food items.
The donations were obtained from the collection in the Zakat Asnaf Fakir Miskin fund.
The donations are hoped to provide some relief for the selected recipients and their families, while performing their Islamic obligations during the month of Ramadhan.
