A TOTAL of 116 orphans, who are children of officers and staff under the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF), received donations during a ceremony held yesterday at the Hassanal Bolkiah Stadium of the RBPF Headquarters in Gadong.
Present to distribute the donations to the orphans were Dato Paduka Seri Haji Mohd Jammy bin Haji Mohd Shah Al-Islam, the Commissioner of the RBPF, and spouse, Datin Hajah Kamariah binti Haji Abdul Hamid.
Also present were Mohammad Irwan bin Haji Hambali, the Acting Deputy Commissioner of the RBPF; and senior officers and officers of RBPF.
Senior Superintendent Haji Zaini bin Haji Abdul Rahim, the Chairman of the event, said it is hoped the donations will provide the orphans with assistance in preparation for the month of Syawal.
“This was one of the annual event which is a collaboration between the General Administration and Financial Body of the RBPF and Welfare Body of Police’s Wives and Families (PEKERTI) through the Internal Audit for Discipline, Welfare and Counselling division under the Supreme Council of the RBPF Sports and Welfare,” he said.
According to him, the donations handed over to the orphans were in the form of monetary assistance and other basic daily necessities.
The event continued with the distribution of donations to the orphans by the guest of honour and his spouse.
Nurfarahin binti Hamdan, 17, told the Bulletin that she was grateful to the RBPF and PEKERTI for the concern on their welfare.
She said the donation will help ease the burden of her family, especially for the coming Hari Raya celebrations.
According to her, she will also be continuing her study in one of the colleges in Brunei in the future and will use some of the monetary assistance to purchase items for her education.
The ceremony ended with the recitation of Doa Selamat.
