THE Information Department of the Prime Minister’s Office, through its International Affairs Unit (acting as secretary of the Sub-committee of Information for Asean-COCI (Asean Committee on Culture and Information)) continued its ‘Understanding Asean’ roadshow across various schools in the Belait District, this time making a stop at Chung Ching Middle School in Seria.

Over 100 students from Years 7 to 9, teachers, and school staff attended the roadshow, with Chung Ching School Principal Dr Ang Sik Liong as the guest of honour at the event.

The roadshow allowed students to acquire a better understanding of each of the 10 Asean member countries.

Abdul Karim bin Hamdan, Special Duties Officer (Grade II) from the International Affairs Unit, Information Department, shared with the students interesting details that included each country’s date of independence, their capital city and national dish.

The roadshow hopes to instil a sense of patriotism within the students, as well as a sense of a being part of a single Asean community, which is in line with the association’s slogan, ‘One Vision, One Identity, One Community.’

The roadshow was capped off with a series of quizzes testing the students’ newfound knowledge on Asean – this was conducted by Isa bin Haji Abdul Rahman, Information Field Officer at the International Affairs Unit.

Students who had participated in the quizzes were later presented with prizes by Dr Ang Sik Liong. The prizes were provided by the International Affairs Unit.

This roadshow is part of the efforts by the department to instil a sense of patriotism and an Asean community spirit within the students, while simultaneously educating them on the aims and purpose of Asean.

The roadshow will make its way to other schools in the Belait District over the coming weeks.
