THE Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) continued its Kembara Ramadhan Charity Programme 2017 yesterday with a donation presentation ceremony for five less fortunate families in the Brunei-Muara District.
The recipients included senior citizens and differently abled people.
The annual outreach programme of the ministry aims to extend community and welfare activities in conjunction with the holy month of Ramadhan.
The charity event yesterday saw Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, visiting the houses of the donation recipients, accompanied by senior officials.
One of the donations was a portable cabin house to a husband and wife, Wahid bin Haji Abdullah and Sibulan binti Haji Buntar.
The house was built on a land plot belonging to the younger brother of Wahid in Kampong Junjongan Limau Manis.
The couple, living in a dilapidated shelter at the same location, refused to be relocated to another place as they wanted to live near their family members and because the location is ideal for them to find a source of income.
Thus, to ensure the safety, welfare and comfort of the couple, one being vision impaired, the Community Development Department (JAPEM) decided to help them acquire a safe and comfortable cabin house.
The programme continued with the presentation of basic living essentials and Raya hampers to four underprivileged families in Kampong Mulaut, Kampong Masin and Kampong Batu Ampar, Limau Manis.
Joining the minister’s entourage included permanent secretaries, heads of departments, senior officials at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and departments under it and representatives from the Brunei-Muara District.
The ministry’s Ramadhan charity donation specifically aims to lessen the burden of less fortunate families, senior citizens and people with different abilities during the holy month of Ramadhan and bring more joy to them during Hari Raya.
