A DELEGATION of 36 students and four teachers from International School Brunei (ISB) yesterday left for Vietnam for their Year 10 Service Project to assist less fortunate villagers of the hill tribes in Sa Pa, Vietnam.
The delegation – led by ISB Community Service Head Maggie Rait – will be in Ta Van Village to install a water filtration system and carry out renovation works on the village’s boarding school. Also onboard are ISB Pastoral Secretary Joyce Wong, ISB Year 10 Class Head Chris Trewern and ISB English teacher Mike Bishop.
“We will also be undertaking various cultural activities to enhance students’ global citizenship and international mindset. Apart from service works, we will also be setting up educational links and sharing teaching strategies and ideas with the boarding school,” Rait told the Bulletin.
In the previous year, ISB took part in a similar service project in Phat Minh Pagoda Orphanage in Ho Chi Minh City, where Year 10 students delivered donations and helped build a playing and reading area at the orphanage, she added.
“Through our partner Transinex – which specialises in community services in Southeast Asia, we were made aware of Ta Van Village, so this year we chose to continue our service work in this area,” she said.
The shirts worn by ISB participants during this project were sponsored by Aewon, while funds for the project was raised through fundraising activities organised by the school over the last three months.
