OFFICERS on board the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) ship, KDB Afiat on patrol during early Monday morning rescued five local fishermen who were adrift at sea.
The fishermen were stranded 10 nautical miles northeast from Champion Oilfield after their boat suffered an engine failure.
The RBN ship was on patrol when it received the report of the stranded boat at 1.32am.
KDB Afiat initiated a search and rescue mission and successfully located the fishermen at 2am. All five locals were in good health when they were rescued.
Their boat was towed back to Muara and the fishermen were handed over to the Marine Police of the Royal Brunei Police Force at 5.30am.
The rescue was the second successful operation by the RBN ship. On June 5, three local fishermen who were also adrift at sea were rescued by KDB Afiat, two nautical miles off the Tutong shore.
