As A show of care for the welfare and wellbeing of residents of the Welfare Home Complex (KRK) and Persons With Disabilities (OKU), the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS), through its Community Development Department (JAPEM), yesterday held a Sungkai ceremony for 213 KRK residents and OKU trainers from Pusat Bahagia and their family members at The Rizqun International Hotel.
Present as guest of honour was Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, together with his spouse.
Also present were the permanent secretaries at the MCYS; head of departments, senior officers, as well as officers and staff under the ministry; and members from the KRK and Pusat Bahagia.
The event commenced with a Tahlil, followed by the handing over of donations (which came in the form of financial aid) to residents and students of the KRK and trainers of Pusat Bahagia by the guest of honour.
Also participating in the donation handover were representatives of the Cabinet Ministers’ spouses, deputy ministers’ spouses, permanent secretaries’ spouses, deputy permanent secretaries’ spouses and affiliated groups, DST Sdn Bhd, PCSB Sdn Bhd, Nazmi Textile Company, and The Rizqun International Hotel; as well as individual donors and contributors who have funded the Sungkai event.
Yesterday’s Sungkai gathering is an annual activity organised by the MCYS to honour the OKU and KRK residents. It is meant as charitable act carried out specifically for the month of Ramadhan to help increase these individuals’ involvement with the society and provide them support through a whole-of-nation approach.
The event was also meant to bring more joy to the Pusat Bahagia OKU trainers and KRK residents, and to provide a chance for their family members to celebrate Ramadhan together with the ministry – specifically JAPEM staff, strengthening the ties and relationships between the groups in the process.
