BANK Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) fulfilled its obligation to the fourth pillar of Islam when it presented its Zakat to the Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB) at the Ministry of Religious Affairs yesterday.
BIBD handed over $3,349,287.17 for its Zakat on business for the financial year of 2016, and $474,336.74 for its Zakat for customer deposits for the period of 2016-2017.
Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdul Aziz bin Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Haji Mohd Yusof, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs in his capacity as the Chairman of the BIBD Syariah Advisory Body, handed over BIBD’s Zakat on business for 2016 to Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs, in his capacity as President of MUIB.
Meanwhile, Mubashar Khokhar, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of BIBD, presented the minister with the Zakat for customer deposits for the period of 2016-2017.
Also present during the handover ceremony was Dato Paduka Awang Haji Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud, the Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs who is also Vice-President of MUIB.
BIBD’s Zakat on business for 2016 recorded an increase of more than eight per cent from the previous year, while Zakat for customer deposits for the period of 2016-2017 saw an increase of more than 28 per cent.
