A MANAGERS’ meeting for the 2017 Football Tournament in conjunction with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s 71st birthday celebration was held yesterday morning in the Meeting Room of the Brunei-Muara District Office at Old Airport in Berakas.
The bi-annual tournament is only open to ministries in Brunei and is one of the official events for His Majesty’s 71st birthday celebration in early August 2017.
Eleven teams have confirmed participation to grab the Challenge Trophy donated by His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mui’zzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office.
The teams will be divided into two groups after the draw yesterday. In Group ‘A’ are: Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA), Ministry of Development (MoD), Ministry of Education (MoE), Ministry of Health (MoH), Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT) and Ministry of Finance (MoF).
Group ‘B’ comprise Ministry of Defence (MinDef), Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA), Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Ministry of Communication (MinCom) and Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS).
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade has withdrawn participation.
MoHA was the champion in 2013. The tournament is co-organised by the Youth and Sports Department and the National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD).
The event yesterday was witnessed by Joint Chairmen: Rosdin bin Haji Abdul Aziz, representative of Brunei-Muara District Office and Pengiran Anak Haji Mohd Yassin bin Pengiran Anak Saifuddin; Tournament Secretary for His Majesty’s 71st birthday celebration 2017 Football Tournament Committee.
